Additional Information
Quivers do not take up a Utility slot!
Quiver storage is built into BowsBeforeHoes. No backpack mod is required. This mod is highly recommended to be used with AzuEPI
Open your inventory, hover over a quiver, and press Use (default E) to open it. Drag, split, or move arrow stacks
normally; use Take All or move stacks back to your inventory to empty it. You can also drop an arrow stack straight onto
a quiver. Only arrows, bolts and eitr arrows go in.
The quiver bar. While a quiver is equipped, a small bar under your hotbar shows its slots. Hold Shift and press
1-9 or 0 to pick which arrow you shoot (or right-click it on the bar). Arrows in the quiver get used before the
ones in your inventory, and the arrow you picked shows on your back.
Archery target: arrows stuck in the vanilla archery target come back when you use the target, this mod's arrows included (except the ones spent by their effect). The 50% return chance doesn't also roll on the target, so there's no doubling up.
Arrows you pick up go into the quiver when your inventory doesn't already hold a stack of them, and crafted arrows go straight in when the quiver already holds that arrow. Both can be turned off.
Special Arrows
Every biome gets arrows that do something other than more damage. They use vanilla models and vanilla systems (staff shields, the shield generator, the grappling hook, tar, dynamite, the spirit caller), so they look and behave like they belong in the game.
Arrows marked spent are used up by their effect and never drop back. Support arrows (Mending, Aegis, Rimeward, Grapple, Spirit) deal no damage, not even the bow's.
| Arrow | Unlocks | Recipe (makes) | Damage | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Signal | Meadows / Black Forest, Workbench 2 | Wood 8, Resin 4, Feathers 2 (20) | 11 pierce | Pings the landing spot for everyone nearby, reveals 40 m of map around it and leaves a light there for 30 s. Spent. |
| Snare | Swamp, Forge 1 | Wood 5, Iron 1, Surtling Core 1 (5) | 20 pierce | Sticks in the ground and arms after 1 s. The first enemy within 2.5 m sets it off: 40 fire + 30 blunt in 4 m, plus burning. Hitting a creature sets it off right away. Lasts 120 s, max 3 armed per archer (the oldest fizzles). Spent. |
| Harpoon | Ocean, Forge 1 | Wood 8, Chitin 1, Leather Scraps 2 (10) | 32 pierce | Vanilla harpoon pull: the target is dragged toward you while you hold on, draining stamina. Doesn't work on bosses. |
| Sapper | Swamp, Forge 2 | Wood 4, Coal 4, Resin 4, Surtling Core 1 (5) | 20 pierce | A mining arrow: a small blast (2.5 m) that does 40 chop and 60 pickaxe at iron-pickaxe tier. It cracks ore and rock at range and digs terrain, but barely scratches creatures (8 blunt). Won't hurt allies, will hurt buildings. Spent. |
| Mending | Mountain, Forge 2 | Wood 5, Silver 1, Honey 2, Feathers 2 (10) | none | Heals you, other players and your tames within 4.5 m for 40 HP over 4 s. Afterwards you're Mended for 15 s and can't be mended again. Spent. |
| Pinning | Plains, Forge 3 | Wood 8, Needle 4, Linen Thread 1, Feathers 2 (20) | 42 pierce | The target moves at 25% speed for 3 s. Bosses only lose 20%. |
| Tar | Plains, Forge 3 | Wood 8, Tar 4, Feathers 2 (5) | 30 pierce | Tars enemies within 3.5 m for 10 s: half speed and very weak to fire. Follow up with fire arrows. Bosses only get a light slow. Spent. |
| Aegis | Mistlands, Black Forge 1 | Yggdrasil Wood 2, Eitr 8, Carapace 2 (5) | none | Staff-of-protection bubble on everyone friendly within 4 m, you included. Absorbs 40 + 1.5 per Bows level (+100 per world level) for 30 s. More arrows don't refresh it, and once it ends (broken or expired) that person can't get another for 45 s. Spent. |
| Rift | Mistlands, Black Forge 1 | Yggdrasil Wood 2, Wisp 1, Eitr 4 (5) | none | Teleports you to where it lands, up to 40 m. Costs 20 eitr, 3 s cooldown. Same item rules as portals, not while encumbered, not inside dungeons, and it needs room for you at the other end. Spent. |
| Bulwark | Ashlands, Black Forge 2 | Blackwood 4, Flametal 1, Celestial Feather 1, Eitr 5 (5) | none | Raises a shield-generator dome where it lands (7 m, shrinking to 3 m as it takes hits). Stops arrows, bolts, fire and cinders from outside for 30 s or 400 projectile damage. One dome per archer, and after raising one you can't draw another Bulwark for 60 s. Spent. |
| Rimeward | Deep North, Black Forge 3 | Frostwood 4, Frost Core 1, Eitr 5 (5) | none | Frost orbs circle everyone friendly within 4 m for 60 s and fire back at anything that hits them. More arrows don't refresh it, and once it ends that person can't get another for 60 s. Spent. |
| Grapple | Deep North, Black Forge 3 | Frostwood 4, Gold 1, Linen Thread 2 (5) | none | The vanilla grappling hook in arrow form. Sink it into something solid and it hauls you over. Spent. |
| Spirit | Deep North, Black Forge 3 | Frostwood 4, Eitr 6, Frost Core 1 (5) | none | Summons the spirit caller's spirits where it lands. Scales with Bows instead of Blood Magic: 1 spirit at first, up to 5 at level 80. Spent. |
Existing arrows: Torch Arrow (lights the way, 10 fire), Mist Torch Arrow (10 fire , clears Mistlands mist 12 m around it in flight and where it lands. Hit a creature and a torch drops there for 2 minutes), Seeker, Thunder and Ashen arrows, plus Frostfire (65 pierce, 25 fire, 25 frost) and Thunderblood (65 pierce, 50 lightning) arrows for the Deep North, made from the Blood Gold arrow recipe plus a frost or thunder orb.
Eitr Bow
A bow made entirely of eitr, crafted at the galdr table (Yggdrasil Wood 10, Eitr 20, Black Core 1, Wisp 3). 60 pierce + 10 spirit (+4/+4 per level).
It only fires Eitr Arrows (Eitr 5, Wisp 1), and an Eitr Arrow can't be fired from anything else. The arrow is never used up. You pay in eitr instead: 2 eitr per second while drawing (plus a little stamina) and 10 eitr per shot. If you don't have enough eitr for a full draw and the shot, the bow won't draw at all, so you don't burn stamina on a shot that can't fire. A full Mistlands eitr bar is a dozen or so shots before you're waiting on regen. Eitr Arrows add 30 pierce + 20 spirit, which lands the pair a little under Spinesnap with carapace arrows (the price of never crafting ammo).
Quivers
Every quiver has a perk, a special trick it does for you. You can see it (and its numbers) by hovering over the quiver.
What upgrading a quiver does
Every upgrade gives you something. Nothing is wasted.
| Upgrade to | You get |
|---|---|
| Quality 2 | The perk gets stronger |
| Quality 3 | +1 slot for arrows |
| Quality 4 | The perk gets strongest |
Slots follow the bosses. A fully upgraded quiver only ever ties the next biome's quiver, it never beats it. So there's always a reason to move on, and always a reason to upgrade what you have.
Every quiver at a glance
"Slots" shows quality 1-2 first, then quality 3-4. The perk column shows quality 1 -> 2-3 -> 4.
| Quiver | Where | Slots | Perk | Gets better with upgrades |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Runed | Meadows | 2 -> 3 | Fletcher's Luck: arrows that miss and hit the ground always come back. | Extra chance to get arrows back from creatures too: +0% -> +15% -> +30% |
| Leather | Black Forest | 3 -> 4 | Hunter's Hush: your arrows land silently, misses don't scare animals. | Bigger sneak attack bonus while crouched: +0% -> +25% -> +50% |
| Black Forest | Black Forest | 3 -> 4 | Tracker's Mark: whatever you hit shows on your map. | How long it shows: 45 s -> 70 s -> 90 s |
| Bonecrest | Swamp | 4 -> 5 | Bone Harvest: killing blow with an arrow gives the arrow back. | Chance to get it back even when it doesn't kill: 0% -> 10% -> 20% |
| Ranger | Mountain | 5 -> 6 | Quick Nock: right after a dodge roll, your bow draws instantly. | How long after the roll: 1.5 s -> 2 s -> 2.5 s |
| Plains Lox | Plains | 6 -> 7 | Stampede: fully drawn shots knock the target back. | How hard: 60 -> 80 -> 100 |
| Yagluth | Drops from Yagluth | 7 (can't be upgraded) | King's Volley: every 5th arrow is fired twice, the 2nd one is free. | - |
| Seeker | Mistlands | 7 -> 8 | Hive Sense: arrows bend a little toward the nearest enemy in front of you. | How wide it looks for enemies: 12° -> 16° -> 20° |
| Eitr | Mistlands (galdr table: Yggdrasil Wood 6, Eitr 16, Wisp 2) | 7 -> 8 | Eitr Fletching: above half eitr, normal arrows cost eitr instead of being used up. Special arrows still get used up. | Eitr per arrow: 8 -> 6.5 -> 5 |
| Odin+ | Ashlands | 8 -> 9 | Valkyrie's Poise: drawing your bow in the air slows your fall, no fall damage. | Fall speed (lower is slower): 3 -> 2.5 -> 2 m/s |
| Frostbound | Deep North (Black Forge 3: Frostwood 10, Frost Core 2, Wolf Pelt 4) | 9 -> 10 | Rime Fletching: drawn shots freeze and slow the target (if the arrow has no effect of its own). | How far you have to draw: 100% -> 95% -> 90% |
Infusions (Ashlands looks)
Late in Ashlands you can give any of this mod's quivers or bows the same glowing look as the elemental Ashlands weapons (the Blood, Storm and Primal Klossen). It's just for looks and doesn't change stats, but it's meant to be something you earn.
| Infusion | Made from (Black Forge level 4) | Look |
|---|---|---|
| Blood Infusion | Bloodstone 1, Flametal 3 | Red glow with swirling, dripping blood |
| Storm Infusion | Iolite 1, Flametal 3 | Blue glow with sparks, storm clouds and a flickering light |
| Primal Infusion | Jade 1, Flametal 3 | Green glow with drifting glowing spores |
| Cleansing Infusion | Crystal 1, Flametal 3 | Removes the infusion, back to the plain look |
How to use one:
- Open your inventory.
- Pick up the infusion with your mouse.
- Drop it onto the quiver or bow you want to change.
The infusion gets used up and the item glows. You'll see it on your back, in your hands, on the ground and in the item's icon. Upgrading the item keeps its infusion. Using a different infusion replaces the old look, and a Cleansing Infusion takes it back to plain.
Bows
Every bow upgrades to quality 4, and each level adds damage (+3 to +4 pierce, plus a bit of the bow's element) and durability.
Testing the arrows
Most of these arrows need allies or something shooting at you, which singleplayer doesn't have. With devcommands on,
type bbh_arrowtest in the console:
- spawns a Training Dummy 12 m ahead (hostile, 40,000 HP, throws stones at you every few seconds) for Bulwark, Snare, Pinning, Tar, Harpoon and the tracking/homing perks
- spawns a tamed wolf beside you for Aegis, Mending and Rimeward
- gives you a stack of every special arrow, the eitr bow and arrow, the new quivers and one of each infusion
- turns on Log Special Arrow Effects, which reports what each arrow actually did (who a burst hit, why a Rift fizzled, when a dome broke) in the top left and in the BepInEx log
bbh_arrowtest clear removes the dummy and the wolf.

Configuration Options
[Synced] settings come from the server when it runs the mod. Everything else is your own.
1 - General
- Lock Configuration
[Synced](On): only server admins can change synced settings.
2 - Bow Zoom
- Enable Bow Zoom (On): hold the Bow Zoom Hotkey while drawing to zoom in.
- Automatic Bow Zoom (Off): zoom on every draw without holding the key.
- Zoom Factor (2, 1-5): how far the zoom goes. 2 halves the field of view.
- Bow Zoom Constant Time (1, 0.1-5): seconds the zoom takes to reach full.
- Stay In-Zoom Time (2, 0-10): seconds you stay zoomed after loosing an arrow while still holding the key.
3 - Keyboard Shortcuts
- Bow Zoom Hotkey (Mouse1): hold while drawing to zoom.
- Bow Draw Cancel Hotkey (E): lets go of a drawn bow without firing.
4 - Other
- Enable Crosshair (On) / Enable Bow Crosshair (On): hide the normal or the drawing crosshair.
- Spawn Arrow Chance
[Synced](0.5, 0-1): chance a shot arrow drops back where it lands. Special arrows that are spent by their effect never come back. The Runed and Bonecrest quiver perks add to this chance, so at 1 they do nothing and at 0 they're the only way to get arrows back. - Enable Bow Draw Movement Speed Reduction
[Synced](On): drawing a bow drops you to a walk until you let go. - Log Special Arrow Effects (Off): reports what each special arrow did in the top left and the BepInEx log.
bbh_arrowtestturns it on.
5 - Quiver
- Quiver Scale (1, 1, 1), Quiver Position (0, 0, 0 metres), Quiver Rotation (0, 180, -20): how the quiver sits on your back.
- Quiver Attach Point (BackShield_attach): the bone the quiver hangs from.
- Quiver Arrow Visuals (MeshAndMaterial): whether the arrows sticking out of the quiver copy the arrow you picked. Off keeps the quiver's own arrows.
- Autofill Quiver (On) / Craft Directly To Quiver (On): see Additional Information above.
- Hide Quiver On Back (Off): hides your own quiver. Others still see it.
6 - Quiver Bar
- Scale (80, 20-200), Position X (0), Position Y (30): size and position of the quiver bar. It sits centred under the stamina bar and grows evenly both ways as your quiver gets more slots.
- Modifier (LeftShift): hold this and press 1-9 or 0 to pick a quiver slot.
Every bow, quiver and arrow [Synced]
Each item also gets its own section with its recipe, upgrade costs, crafting station, trader price and stats (damage, durability, weight and so on). Change them there, the defaults are what's described above.
