Description

Greydwarf Eyes

Put your greydwarf eyes to work: carry an eternal eye torch, mark enemies with arrows for extra piercing damage, reveal nearby resources with a mead, and hang a Watcher's Wreath on your wall for a little extra comfort.

Version 0.2.0 targets Valheim 1.0.14. This release adds the Watcher's Wreath; the torch, arrows and mead retain their existing recipes and effects. Live gameplay, multiplayer and in-game rendering remain unverified.

Four uses for greydwarf eyes

Item Effect Default recipe
Everwatch Torch A handheld greydwarf-eye orb with pale cyan light. Burns indefinitely, without fuel consumption, durability loss or repair. Workbench level 1: 5 Wood, 10 Greydwarf eyes, 4 Resin.
Eye-mark Arrow 22 base piercing damage. Marks a struck target with a cyan glow for 20 seconds; subsequent piercing hits gain 25% damage before normal defenses. Workbench level 1: 8 Wood, 2 Greydwarf eyes, 2 Feathers → 20 arrows.
Seer's Mead Two minutes of sight within 40 metres. Ore glimmers cyan, wild treasure glimmers gold, and crypt entrances glimmer violet, with distance labels visible through terrain. Cauldron level 1: 10 Honey, 5 Greydwarf eyes, 5 Blueberries → one Mead base: Seer's sight. Ferment normally → 6 bottles.
Watcher's Wreath Twisted wood, decorative feathers and small eyes surrounding a central cyan eye. A wall decoration providing +1 comfort by default. Duplicate wreaths do not stack their comfort. Hammer → Furniture, with a nearby workbench: 10 Fine wood, 5 Greydwarf eyes, 4 Resin.

Discover the ingredients to unlock the recipes through Valheim's normal progression. Equip the Everwatch Torch using ordinary torch controls. It retains vanilla torch combat behavior and is a handheld item, with no standing-torch build piece.

A watchful decoration

Build the Watcher's Wreath on a wall or other vertical surface using the hammer, and rotate it with the normal placement controls to face outward. Its wood, feathers and smaller eyes surround one glowing cyan eye. The feathers are decorative; the recipe needs only Fine wood, Greydwarf eyes and Resin.

It adds +1 comfort while sheltered within the normal 10-metre comfort radius, alongside your other decorations. Additional wreaths do not stack their comfort. Dismantling returns the full ingredient cost. The wreath has no rain wear and does not support other building pieces.

Adjust comfort and ingredients for your server, and choose the wreath brightness locally for your own view. Brightness 0 turns off its surrounding illumination; the colored eye remains visible in ambient light, with emission disabled.

The package includes greydwarf-wreath-preview.html, an offline model preview you can open in a browser and rotate. It uses the actual wreath mesh with approximate lighting.

Mark your target

The arrow that first applies Eye-mark deals normal damage. Later piercing hits from any attacker receive the bonus; further Eye-mark Arrows refresh the timer without stacking the bonus. Bow damage and skills still contribute normally. Armor, resistance and immunity still apply, so an immune target remains immune. The mark follows normal blocking, dodging and PvP rules, and disappears on expiry or death.

See what is nearby

Drink Seer's Mead, then turn toward nearby resources to see their glimmers through terrain. Supported deposits include copper, tin, silver, scrap-iron piles, bog iron, obsidian, meteorite and flametal. Treasure detection covers natural treasure chests and selected dungeon valuables and cores. Entrances include Black Forest burial chambers, swamp sunken crypts and Hildir's smouldering tomb.

The mead does not occupy a food slot or heal. Another bottle cannot be consumed while Seer's Sight is active; you can drink again after it expires. Death ends the effect.

Installation

Requires BepInEx 5.4.21 / BepInExPack for Valheim. Greydwarf Eyes is standalone; Jötunn and other gameplay mods are not required. Hexium assumes BepInExPack, so this package declares no additional mod dependencies.

Install with your mod manager into the profile you use to launch Valheim. For manual installation:

  1. Install BepInExPack for Valheim, run the game once, then close it.
  2. Copy the package's plugins/GreydwarfEyes folder into your installation's BepInEx/plugins directory. The resulting path should be BepInEx/plugins/GreydwarfEyes/GreydwarfEyes.dll.
  3. Install the same DLL and gameplay settings on every client and the host or dedicated server, then restart them. Wreath brightness can be set per player.
  4. Check BepInEx/LogOutput.log for Greydwarf Eyes 0.2.0 loaded.

For a mod-manager profile, use that profile's BepInEx directory. Keep only one copy of GreydwarfEyes.dll installed. The package contains no game or BepInEx assemblies.

Configuration

The first launch creates BepInEx/config/local.valheim.greydwarfeyes.cfg. Close the game and server before editing, then restart. Settings are not synchronized or enforced automatically; distribute the same gameplay settings to every peer. Wreath / Brightness is cosmetic and can differ between players.

Section / setting Default Meaning
Arrow / MarkDuration 20 Mark duration in seconds, 1–600.
Arrow / PierceBonus 0.25 Additional piercing fraction: 0.25 means +25%; range 0–3.

Mead / SightRadius 40 Detection radius in metres, 5–100.
Wreath / Comfort 1 Wreath comfort, 0–5; duplicate wreaths do not stack.
Wreath / Brightness 0.7 Personal cosmetic light intensity, 0–2; 0 turns off surrounding illumination, emission also turns off.
Recipes / Torch Wood:5,GreydwarfEye:10,Resin:4 Torch ingredients.
Recipes / Arrow Wood:8,GreydwarfEye:2,Feathers:2 Arrow ingredients.
Recipes / ArrowBatch 20 Arrows per craft, 1–100.

Recipes / MeadBatch 6 Bottles per fermented base, 1–20.
Recipes / Wreath FineWood:10,GreydwarfEye:5,Resin:4 Wreath ingredients; a nearby workbench is required.

Recipes use comma-separated, exact ingredient prefab IDs and positive counts. Installed mods' ingredients can be used if their prefabs are available. A malformed recipe or missing ingredient disables that recipe with a log warning. Recipe changes leave previously crafted items intact.

Compatibility and current limits

  • Everyone needs the mod. Version and gameplay-setting matching is manual, including on dedicated servers. Personal wreath brightness is the exception.
  • Sight is local and temporary. It scans loaded objects once per second, shows at most 64 nearby markers, and creates no permanent map pins. Face a target to see its marker. Very dense areas can exceed the fixed scan capacity.
  • Detection uses supported prefab names. Player-built storage, player-created objects, loose dropped items and emptied containers are excluded. Unknown modded deposits and locations are not detected automatically. A dungeon's interior is not scanned from its surface entrance.
  • Projectile-status mods can conflict. Eye-mark takes precedence over a bow's explicit attack status because Valheim carries one explicit attack-status value. Damage-driven elemental effects remain separate.
  • English text only. Live gameplay, wreath placement and comfort, multiplayer timing, network ownership changes and appearance still need in-game validation; compilation and automated checks are not a gameplay test.

Before uninstalling, dismantle Watcher's Wreaths and remove stored, dropped and equipped Greydwarf Eyes items. Valheim cannot resolve their custom prefab IDs without the mod. Troubleshooting guidance is included in the package's FAQ.
