Group Voice Bridge
Group-only voice chat for Valheim, connecting Smoothbrain's Groups with Azumatt's ProximityVoiceChat. Talk to your group across any distance while retaining the original proximity and global voice channels.
Features
- Group-only push-to-talk with a configurable key.
- Always-on group voice, using the original microphone noise gate.
- Local and global push-to-talk temporarily override always-on group voice.
- Fading speaker icons beside group member names, including your own, for group-channel speech.
- Personal voice mode, keybind, and icon visibility settings.
- Membership checks before sending and accepting group voice packets.
Installation
Install with Gale or another compatible mod manager. The package declares these required dependencies:
Smoothbrain-Groups-1.2.12Azumatt-ProximityVoiceChat-1.0.4
For a local Gale import, choose Import / Install local mod and select the ZIP directly. Remove an older bridge installation first to avoid duplicate DLLs.
For manual installation, install BepInExPack Valheim and the two required mods, then copy BepInEx/plugins/HotheadGroupVoice/GroupVoiceBridge.dll into your game's matching plugins folder.
Install the bridge on each participating player's client. It does not need to be installed on the dedicated server.
Configuration
Config file: BepInEx/config/com.hothead.groupvoice.cfg
| Setting | Default | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
GroupVoiceMode |
PushToTalk |
Choose PushToTalk or AlwaysOn. |
GroupPushToTalk |
V |
Hold to talk only to your group in push-to-talk mode. |
ShowGroupSpeakerIcons |
true |
Show speaker indicators beside group names. |
Settings are personal to each client and do not require administrator privileges. In Configuration Manager, turn off Keybinds only to see the mode and icon settings. Settings can be changed in-game through a compatible configuration manager; when editing the config file externally, close the game first and restart afterward.
Always-on group voice still respects self mute, deafen, chat typing, and the original noise gate. Hold the original local or global push-to-talk key to temporarily use that channel, then release it to return to group voice. The original default keys are B for proximity and N for global; use your configured keys if different.
Without a group, the group channel sends no audio to other players. Group voice settings are separate from the original mod's Settings > Voice controls.
Compatibility
- Developed for Valheim 1.0.17, Groups 1.2.12, and ProximityVoiceChat 1.0.4.
- Required dependencies are listed in
manifest.json; the original mods are not bundled or modified. - BepInExPack Valheim is required to run the plugin, but Hexium assumes it and strips that dependency on upload.
- Steam-only voice, following the original voice mod's transport requirements.
- All group voice participants should install the bridge. Each client that wants roster icons needs version 0.1.5 or newer.
- The base mods may optionally be installed on a server for their own configuration synchronization. This does not replace client installation.
- The voice features and always-on mode were confirmed working in-game in 0.1.4. The new 0.1.5 speaker icon layout still needs in-game validation.
- Version 0.1.5 compiled and passed 36 routing, mode, microphone gate, and indicator eligibility checks. These checks do not validate Unity rendering or live networking.
- If an icon-specific UI error occurs, icons disable and log a warning while voice remains enabled.
- No additional conflicts are confirmed. Changed APIs in future dependency releases may require a bridge update; declared minimum versions are not a guarantee of compatibility with every newer release.
Troubleshooting
If group voice does not work, check BepInEx/LogOutput.log for Group voice ready, confirm the configured group key, and confirm both players have joined the same group. Diagnostic lines report matched group recipients and packet counts.
If a setting is missing, clear Configuration Manager's search and Keybinds only filter. If speaker icons overlap another element, provide a screenshot and the log.
