Do I need a new tool? No. Pickaxe digs, hoe raises, levels, smooths and paints. No new items or recipes.
How do I dig deeper? Better pickaxe. Antler/stone digs 8m, bronze 16m, iron 48m, blackmetal 128m. Modded pickaxes fit in by their tier. All of it is configurable.
Is there a depth limit? 128m below the original surface by default, up to 256m. Digging at a limit leaves a flat floor, which is great for lining up builds.
Can I change how big a hole I dig?
Hold Left Alt with a pickaxe out. Mouse wheel resizes, Z switches cube/sphere, V switches gradual/blast.
Alt + B hides the overlay. Admins can cap it or turn it off.
Why does a big dig eat so much stamina? Bigger bite, bigger cost. Stamina and tool wear scale with how much rock you remove. A swing that doesn't dig costs nothing extra.
Can I hollow out a mountain? Dig straight down? Yes. Bring stamina and a repaired pickaxe.
Will my cave collapse on me? No. Overhangs and ceilings stay put. Only rock you cut completely free drops, and a huge slab is left alone because it might be your roof.
My pickaxe broke at the bottom of a shaft.
Raise a ramp out with the hoe. Worst case, the vanilla die command works without devcommands.
Can monsters follow me in? Yes, anything that fits. Give them a few seconds to learn a fresh tunnel. Sealing the entrance with raised ground still works.
Do buildings collapse if I dig under them? Yes, like vanilla. Ore deposits, cliffs, pillars and giant bones crumble too. Plain boulders just hang there.
Does digging drop stone? Yes, and a bigger hole drops more. Nothing drops at your depth limit.
Do fires work underground? Yes. Smoke works too, so give it headroom or a chimney or it smothers the fire, then you.
Does it rain or snow in my cave? No. Rock overhead is shelter, so you get the Sheltered buff too. Weather still reaches in near the entrance.
Why does it get dark when I dig deep? 16m down with rock overhead a dungeon ambience fades in. Each player can change it or turn it off.
I logged out in my cave. Where do I wake up? In your cave. Tombstones, loot and tames stay down there too.
Can I dig into crypts or frost caves? No. Vanilla dungeons live far outside the terrain. Digging is also blocked at boss altars, the trader and other no build spots.
Can I drain the ocean or make a river? No. Water doesn't flood in and doesn't get blocked. Digging under a shoreline gets weird, so don't.
What does a tunnel under snow look like? A tunnel. A few metres down the snow is gone.
What about lava? A tunnel under a lava flow is a lava tube, and it burns. I tried changing that and it tore the terrain, so it stays.
Tar pits? Untested. Dig somewhere else for now.
Can I rip out a chunk of terrain and throw it at enemies? No. It's a digging mod, not a gravity gun.
