Description

BottleShips

BottleShips adds 11 bottle items, each containing a ship, cart, battering ram, catapult, portal, trap, or ballista. Use a bottle as the build resource and place the full-size piece when you need it.

BottleShips must be installed on the server and every connecting client because it adds synchronized network prefabs and gameplay settings.

  • Each bottle is tied to the matching piece.
  • Pieces can be configured to use the bottle recipe or their original build recipe.
  • Build stations, build resources, bottle recipes, bottle weight, stack size, teleportability, and removal behavior are all configurable.

  • Keep bottles on item stands and grab one whenever you are ready to build.
  • No more digging through containers for every ship, portal, or siege piece.

  • If a ship breaks, carrying a spare bottle lets you rebuild it quickly.

  • Bottles on item stands.

  • Raft, karve, longship, and drakkar bottles.

  • Cart, battering ram, and catapult bottles.

  • Wood portal and stone portal bottles.

  • Troll trap and ballista bottles.

  • Bottle recipes at the workbench.

  • Bottle recipes at the forge.

  • Bottle recipes at the artisan table.

  • Bottles can be configured with weight, stack size, and teleportability.

  • Build full-size pieces using bottles, with optional station requirements.

My boats and carts on the map

When available, the large map starts with boats and carts built by your current character visible, using each vehicle's build icon. Press V to show or hide them while the map is open; the map key hint shows the current action. The client-only Toggle My Vehicle Pins Key setting appears at the bottom of General in Configuration Manager. With Path of Valheiman installed, an active Harbor Mark effect is required for both boats and carts; otherwise the feature is available without a talent.

Positions are requested from the server once when you open the large map, including vehicles outside your loaded area. They remain fixed until the map is closed and reopened. Toggling visibility reuses the snapshot and does not save a setting. Reopening the map shows the pins again. There are no minimap pins or saved map pins.

The original builder's character ID determines ownership, regardless of who is driving or currently owns the network object. Vehicles without a recorded builder are excluded. Both ordinary and bottle-based construction are supported, including modded prefabs using Ship or Vagon with a Piece build icon. This feature is independent of PortalRules and the handling/exploration tweaks disabled by RockTheBoat.

The server and clients need this version of BottleShips. Requests are limited to one per connection per 0.5 seconds and 2048 vehicles per snapshot, with a message if the list is incomplete or unavailable.

Configuration

BottleShips is configured through the normal BepInEx config file. No YAML editing is required.

General options:

  • Extended Cart Interaction: client-only toggle that expands the normal attach/detach interaction of Vagon-based vehicles such as carts, battering rams, and catapults without adding a separate hotkey or tooltip. Default: On.
  • Troll Trap Auto Reload Seconds: automatically rearms piece_trap_troll after it triggers. Default: 5. Range: 0-10, where 0 disables it.
  • Battering Ram Size: scales newly placed battering rams. Default: 0.75. Range: 0.5-1. Existing placed battering rams are not changed.
  • Ballista Targeting Tweaks: trophy targets are prioritized, but the ballista can still attack other valid enemies. Players, tamed creatures, and creatures in the PlayerSpawned faction are never selected as targets.
  • Ballista Ammo Capacity Multiplier: multiplies the captured original ammunition capacity of all vanilla ballistas, so the hover display and compatible fill-all mods use the same limit. Default: 1 (original capacity). Range: 1-20; lowering it does not delete stored excess ammo.

Ship tweaks apply to every object with a Ship component, including ships added by other mods.

Ship tweak options:

  • Explore Radius Multiplier: multiplies minimap exploration radius while aboard a ship. Default: 1.
  • Ship Power Multiplier: scales wind-driven force at Half or Full and manual propulsion plus paddle steering at Slow or Back. It does not multiply speed-based steering or directly set top speed. Default: 1.
  • Power Paddling Bonus Per Player: the helmsman and passengers seated in ship chairs can each hold Run to consume a base 10 stamina per second and add the configured share of the ship's globally scaled paddling force. Passive occupants add nothing. It works only at Back or Slow and is unavailable at Half or Full while the sails are deployed. Each active paddler gets a smooth +10 effect on their own camera FOV; other paddlers do not stack additional FOV on that player. Default: 0.5 (50% per active player). Range: 0-1, where 0 disables Power Paddling.
  • Show Power Paddling HUD: client-only On/Off setting, enabled by default and independent of the game's Key Hints setting. Eligible helmsmen and seated passengers see one short hint, "Press [Run key] to paddle", using the current keyboard binding or gamepad button. For the helmsman, it follows the steering icon on its right; for seated passengers, it stays at the bottom center of the screen regardless of camera direction. The hint disappears outside Back/Slow, when leaving the seat, while menus are open, or when the HUD is hidden. The helmsman's hint also hides when the steering position is behind the camera. Turning this setting off hides only the hint; Power Paddling still works.
  • Ship Repair Durability Per Wood: allows the repairing player to fully repair a ship outside its required build-station range by spending one Wood per configured amount of missing durability, rounded up. Station range is checked from the player's position. The configured build station is used when present; ships with Build Station = None use a Workbench as the repair-station fallback. Repairs within range remain free. While the hammer's repair piece is selected and a damaged field-repairable ship is targeted, the required amount is centered over the Wood icon beside the vanilla durability bar. Default: 200. Range: 0-1000, where 0 disables this feature and preserves vanilla repair behavior.
  • Ashlands Field Repair Prefabs: comma-separated, case-sensitive ship prefab names allowed to use field repair in boiling waters. Default: VikingShip_Ashlands (Drakkar). An empty list blocks field repair for all ships in those waters. This checks the ship's position using the same Ashlands ocean check as ship heat damage, so Expand World Data's custom boiling regions are included automatically without listing their biome names or requiring EWD. Merely using Ashlands weather or nature: AshLands without boiling water does not trigger this restriction. Repairs within station range and existing no-cost/no-workbench exceptions remain unchanged. A denied repair shows a message, hides the Wood cost, and consumes no Wood. Use ship names such as VikingShip_Ashlands, not bottle item names ending in _bottle.

BottleShips disables its minimap, handling, and Power Paddling tweaks when RockTheBoat is installed to avoid applying the same features twice. Field ship repair remains available.

Each bottle section can configure:

  • Use Original Build Recipe
  • Build Station
  • Can Be Removed
  • Build Resources
  • Weight
  • Stack
  • Teleportable
  • Recipe Enabled
  • Recipe Station
  • Recipe Resources

Synced options are enforced from the server when BottleShips is installed on both server and clients. Client-only options, such as extended cart interaction, remain local.

Path of Valheiman compatibility

BottleShips includes optional integration for Path of Valheiman. The integration has been statically checked against 5.1.2; this is not an in-game multiplayer validation. Path of Valheiman is not required or included in the package.

  • Harbor Mark unlocks BottleShips' boat and cart display. While this integration is active, BottleShips replaces Path of Valheiman's ship pins with its own large-map-only display: positions refresh when the map is opened, and there are no minimap pins or periodic position updates. Other Path of Valheiman map markers are unchanged.

  • Refunding Harbor Mark or disabling its effect removes BottleShips' vehicle pins and key hint, cancels local scans, ignores pending responses, and discards cached positions. Learning it while the large map is open requests a fresh snapshot. Keep the Path of Valheiman Harbor Mark talent setting enabled to use it as the unlock.

  • The map integration requires Path of Valheiman's public stats API and a supported ship-marker implementation. If its API or patch checks fail, BottleShips' vehicle display is disabled and Path of Valheiman retains its own ship display. Other BottleShips features remain available.

  • An active Mending at Sea effect uses Path of Valheiman's free ship repair, without BottleShips' Wood cost, cost indicator, or boiling-water restriction for Wood repairs. Refunding or disabling the talent restores the normal BottleShips rules.

  • Path of Valheiman's area repair skips ships that currently require paid BottleShips field repair or are blocked by its boiling-water rule. This also applies to ships with Build Station = None. Repairs within station range and existing free-repair exceptions remain available.

  • An anchored ship cannot use Power Paddling. Its hint, stamina consumption, extra force, and paddling FOV effect stop while the anchor is deployed.

  • Open Shipyard keeps its own packed-ship items and stored cargo. BottleShips does not also award a bottle during packing. Newly packed ships retain whether construction materials were paid, including the original discount, so redeploying a crate does not make a free-built ship refund materials. Older crates without this information are left unchanged.

  • BottleShips' Can Be Removed setting is respected for its four managed ships. Set it to On to permit hammer removal and Path of Valheiman packing; the default Off prevents both. Path of Valheiman also requires a build station configured on the ship and packing outside that station's range; Build Station = None does not activate its crate path.

Sailing bonuses, shipbuilding effects, cargo capacity, cart abilities, and exploration modifiers retain their existing behavior. V hides or shows BottleShips' temporary vehicle pins after Harbor Mark is unlocked.

Localization support

  • There should be BottleShips.English.yml in plugins folder. Translate it to your language and put it anywhere inside of the Bepinex folder

Changelog

1.1.17 Latest
  • Made Path of Valheiman's active Harbor Mark effect unlock BottleShips' boat and cart map display through its public stats API. Without Path of Valheiman, the display remains available without a talent.
  • Replaced Path of Valheiman's ship markers with BottleShips' large-map vehicle icons while this integration is active. Positions refresh when the map opens; there are no minimap pins or periodic position updates. Other Path of Valheiman map markers retain their behavior.
  • Removed vehicle pins, key hints, and cached positions when Harbor Mark is refunded or disabled. Local scans stop, late responses are ignored, and unlocking the effect again requests fresh positions.
  • Kept Path of Valheiman's own ship display when the map API or patch checks fail, disabling only BottleShips' replacement display.
  • Moved the vehicle-map shortcut after the action text in English and Korean key hints, matching the game's map hint order.
1.1.16
  • Added optional Path of Valheiman integration using its active talent effects, without requiring or bundling the mod.
  • Let active Mending at Sea use Path of Valheiman's free repair without a Wood charge or Wood-repair HUD. Its area repairs skip ships requiring paid field repair or blocked by BottleShips' boiling-water rule, including Build Station=None ships.
  • Disabled Power Paddling input, stamina consumption, hint, FOV bonus, and owner-side extra force while Path of Valheiman's anchor is deployed.
  • Preserved the original free-construction flag and paid-material factor through newly packed Path of Valheiman ship crates, retaining resource-refund protection after redeployment. Existing crates without this metadata remain unchanged.
  • Respected Can Be Removed for BottleShips-managed ships after Path of Valheiman initialization; set it to On to enable its ship-packing path. Sailing, exploration, cargo, and cart bonuses retain their existing behavior.
1.1.15
  • Added a short Power Paddling HUD hint for eligible helmsmen and seated passengers at Back or Slow, with English and Korean text and the player's current Run key or gamepad button.
  • Positioned the helmsman's hint beside the steering icon and the seated passenger's hint at the bottom center of the screen, independent of camera direction.
  • Added the client-only Show Power Paddling HUD On/Off setting, enabled by default and independent of the game's Key Hints setting. Hiding the hint leaves Power Paddling behavior unchanged.
