⚔️ VALtimaOnline
"Hear ye, hear ye! The moongates hum again, Lord British's banners fly over Britain, and the bank is open — say the word and Azora will hear thee, even if thou art shouting. Mind the lizardmen of Despise. They have found the Vikings' caves much to their liking." — a town crier of Britain
Step out of a moongate into Britain — every shop, guard and banker where UO left them.
UO's Trammel, rebuilt inside Valheim: its towns at building scale from Valheim's own pieces, its townsfolk working at their trades, its moongates, its bank, its dungeons and its creatures where UO put them. You still chop, build, sail and fight like a Viking — in Britannia.
It runs on a VALtima server. The world comes from VALtima's map folder through Better Worlds; your game needs VALtimaOnline to see it.
A smaller, closer Britannia, built on Better Worlds. UO's Trammel in a world you can actually cross — the towns a short ride apart, the wilds full again.
| You | It |
|---|---|
| Wake on the start island | a hand-built island with its own moongate to the towns |
| Walk north of Britain | Despise — up a cliff path into a Viking cave, with lizardmen, ettins, ogres and trolls under their UO names |
| Visit Britain's graveyard | a crypt, with skeletons, zombies, spectres and wraiths |
| Follow a river | UO's rivers run through the land, and streams come down from the hills |
| Leave the road | UO's creatures in UO's spawn regions, seven times as many as before |
| Open the minimap | Alpha 2's own map, drawn from VALtima's own data |
🔹 Valheim's bosses, traders and crypts are kept · 🔹 other mods' places — ore mines, spirit healers, gem caves — are placed too, never in a town · 🔹 vendors and bankers reach into your backpack · 🔹 townsfolk walk with Valheim's own stride · 🔹 bankers hear a shout
| If… | Then… | |
|---|---|---|
| 🛑 | you have Better Continents installed | remove it. Better Worlds makes VALtima's land now, and two world generators fight. |
| 🌍 | you want the world | it lives on a VALtima server. On its own, the mod loads but there are no towns and nothing to visit. |
| 🤝 | you play on a server | VALtimaOnline and Better Worlds must match the server's versions exactly — it turns away any other. |
| 🗺️ | you played World 2 | Alpha 2 is a new map. Your character, bank box, fame, karma and quests come with you; buildings stay behind. |
| 🎮 | you are on an older Valheim | update the game first. |
UO's towns, built from Valheim's own pieces — and nobody can knock them down.
| 🏰 The buildings | walls, roofs, furniture, banners, gardens and burning torches, part of the world itself |
| 🧑🌾 The townsfolk | cooks wipe, carpenters saw, fishermen fish; they stroll, rest, and stop when you stand close |
| 🛒 The vendors | E opens the store; each trade sells and buys only its own goods, cheaper near Britain, rarer farther out |
| 🏦 The bank | say bank at a banker: one box per character, coins as a balance, safe through a crash |
| 🛡️ The guards | two at each gate; type guards in chat when a monster follows you in |
| 🚪 Doors, seats and stations | doors open for anyone and close behind you; sit on the benches, use the forges and ovens |
| 🕊️ Safe havens | no PvP, no monster spawns, no raids, and only members build |
📖 Read the saga — how a town is made, and why the bank cannot lose your gold
A town is world data. VALtima's compiler lays UO's buildings plot by plot from Valheim's pieces — clay, fine wood, stone — and Better Worlds draws them by the thousand on your graphics card. They are scenery: no damage, no removal. The torches near you are real torches, so the streets are lit. Some buildings are community builds, credited by their builders in the world folder's TOWN-CREDITS.txt.
Townsfolk work by trade. Each carries the tools of its trade and walks a set route through its town, resting along the way. Stand close and it waits; talk to it and it waits longer. A few walk the roads between towns.
Every bank movement is a trade. What you take out is held by the server until your own game has saved it into your character; what you put in is saved by your game before it is sent. A dropped connection neither copies nor loses anything. The server keeps a journal of every movement and backs the accounts up through the day. The bank also reaches into a backpack you carry, and so do the vendors.
Vendors follow Valkyries Cargo's prices, buy back their own trade's goods at half price up to a purse a day, and restock each game day. Each town sells up to one tier of the progression ladder, rising with its distance from Britain.
Eight blue gates at UO's eight places — and one more on the start island.
| You | It |
|---|---|
| Press E at a gate | shows the other gates; pick one and step through |
| Carry ore or metal | the gate refuses, as Valheim's portals do |
| Strike a player | the gates refuse you for half a minute |
| Try to build a portal | you can't — in a VALtima world the moongates are the only way |
📖 Read the saga — the Woodland Portal
The gates are the Woodland Portal by MonkeyMagicMan: a living-wood gateway with a stone stair, two lanterns, glowing runes and a swirl — blue, as Trammel's were. Each gate stands in a small safe haven, UO's guarded square. In a world with Felucca, each land lists only its own gates, and Felucca's glow red.
Britannia's land and creatures, the way UO laid them out.
| 🐺 Region spawns | UO's creatures where UO spawns them, named as in UO, by Valheim stand-ins; they keep out of towns and claims |
| 🌊 Rivers and streams | UO's rivers, and streams running down to them |
| 🏔️ Snow | deep snow from the snow line to the summits: you wade, you leave a trench, you clear it to build |
| 🗿 Valheim's world, kept | the bosses and their guide stones, Haldor, Hildir and the Bog Witch, crypts and burial chambers |
| ⛏️ Other mods' places | ore mines, Skathi's spirit healers, gem caves and hollowed trees, out in the wilds |
📖 Read the saga — why the land looks the way it does
The biomes follow UO's regions: forests where Yew's forest was, swamps where UO's swamps are, mountains where UO's mountains stand — grown so the ranges have real height. Eikthyr's and Bonemass's altars are set by hand where the land lets them stand, Eikthyr's an easy walk from Britain. No random place lands in a town or on the start island: anything the game would have put there is taken out before anyone arrives.
Region spawns wake when a player comes near, keep each creature near home, and fill again on UO's delays. They stay out of the towns' havens and out of every claim with "No Monster Spawns".
Despise is open. Clear it, leave, and it fills again.
| 🦎 Despise | north of Britain, up a cliff path: lizardmen, ettins, ogres, trolls and earth elementals, sized to the halls |
| 💀 Britain's graveyard | a crypt of skeletons, zombies, spectres and wraiths |
| 💰 The chests | UO-level loot, more chests than the caves' own |
| 🔁 The reset | every few hours, once nobody is inside, the dungeon is made again — your tombstone always stays |
| ⚰️ Valheim's own | its crypts, caves and burial chambers reset the same way |
📖 Read the saga — who runs the dungeons
Better Worlds' BetterDungeons runs every dungeon: it builds them, keeps track of who is inside, and resets them. VALtima gives it the dungeon table — which cave stands where — and decides what lives inside and what lies in the chests, by UO's own lists. A creature carries its UO name and the size that fits the halls; a reset rebuilds the very same rooms.
Your name on your plate says who you are — and what you have done.
| 🏅 Skill titles | your best skill as UO named it — Master Blacksmith; F8 shows or hides yours |
| ✨ Fame and karma | earned per kill by UO's numbers; The Glorious Lord shows beside your title |
| ⚖️ Murder | strike an innocent outside a town and you turn grey; five long-term counts make you red |
| ⛩️ Reds | return to life only at the Shrine of Chaos |
📖 Read the saga — how the server judges
The server decides everything: who struck whom, who gets the credit for a kill, and when a murder count falls away. A killed player may report the murder. Type sins to see your own counts, fame and karma. In Felucca, as in UO, guards still answer a call against a grey, and a red's only moongates are Felucca's.
Townsfolk with work for you, and maps worth digging for.
| 📜 Quests | Shift + E on a townsperson with a quest; L opens your journal |
| 🗺️ Treasure maps | a creature may drop one; read it and its spot is marked on your map |
| ⛏️ Digging | six blows of a pickaxe or hoe raise a chest with its guardians; only you can open it, and not while one lives |
| 🏴 Seven levels | from the Plainly Drawn map of the Meadows to the Ancient map of the Ashlands |
📖 Read the saga — where the quests come from
The town quests ship with the mod, together with Nomadicwar's community quests. A server adds its own as YAML files, picked up as they change, and can bring KG Marketplace quest folders over as they are — the server converts them and reports every line it changed.
Art update: with VikingOS, a VALtima world wears its own leather-and-brass panels, minimap ring and paperdoll frame. Music: each biome plays VALtima's own track, and the menu has its own.
First ten minutes: join the server → step into the island's moongate → Britain → say bank at Azora → E on a shopkeeper → greet the gate guards → head north to Despise.

🛠️ Run a VALtima server
Install Better Worlds and VALtimaOnline on the server (no Better Continents), put VALtima's map folder in place as Better Worlds' templates before the first start, and start it: the server makes the world from them by itself. Then an admin joins and presses F7 → Finish design, which lets the dungeon resets begin. Keep the world folder's files with the world when you move it.
🎵 Hear UO's own theme in the menu
Set 03 Menu / UO Music Path to your own UO Music/Digital folder, or to Stones.mp3 itself. The menu then plays it from your disk; it is never packaged. Empty, the bundled track plays.
🎬 Videos and streams
Two of the tracks are CC BY and need their credit wherever they are shared. Put these lines in your video's description:
Music: "For the King" by Alexandr Zhelanov (https://soundcloud.com/alexandr-zhelanov), CC BY 4.0
Music: "Dark Hollows" by Alexander Nakarada (https://creatorchords.com), CC BY 4.0
Alexander Nakarada's label claims YouTube videos that use his music without his credit in the description.

|---|---|
| 🛑 Better Continents | Do not run it. Better Worlds replaces it. |
| Better Worlds | Required: it makes the land, draws the towns and runs the dungeons. |
| TerroritySmellatory | Required: the towns' and moongates' havens, installed by the server with each new world. |
| VikingOS | Draws VALtima's own panels, minimap ring and paperdoll frame in a VALtima world. Its Always Shout is fine: bankers hear a shout. |
| Backpacks | Vendors and bankers reach into a backpack you carry. |
| FineWoodPieces | The towns use its clay, fine-wood and furniture pieces; without it, Valheim's own pieces of the same shape stand in. |
| KG Marketplace | Its quest folders can be brought over as they are. |
| Jewelcrafting · OreMines · Afterdeath · ValheimCuisine | Their places are kept in a VALtima world, out of the towns. |
