Field Pickup
Send cargo from an inland pickup crate to a discovered More World Locations shipping port. Choose Normal service or pay extra for Express, then collect your shipment from the destination dockmaster.
Version 0.1.2 is a test release. In-game and dedicated-server acceptance testing is still required. See the included TESTING.md before using it in an established world.
Using the crate
- Speak to an MWL shipping port's dockmaster after Field Pickup is installed. Revisit previously discovered ports once to register them for Field Pickup's server-verified destination list.
- Build a Field Dispatch Crate with the Hammer: 10 Wood and 5 Fine Wood. It has 5 x 2 inventory slots.
- Press E to open it. Add cargo and enough of MWL's configured shipping currency, normally Coins, to pay the quoted fee.
- Close the inventory and press Shift + E at the crate. Choose a discovered destination and Normal or Express service, review the fee and travel time, then request pickup.
- Collect the arrived shipment through the destination port's ordinary delivery interface. On a remote client, the first Collect action checks the dispatch receipt with the host; select Collect again after the confirmation message.
The fee comes from the crate, not your character's inventory. The required currency is reserved for payment; the remaining contents, including any excess currency, are shipped. The crate disappears when the accepted dispatch finishes committing. Its building materials are consumed, with no material drop or refund. This cleanup does not send cargo a second time.
An invalid quote, insufficient payment, or a failure before acceptance leaves the crate and its contents in place. If an accepted dispatch is interrupted, a matched source crate stays locked during recovery and disappears when that dispatch completes. Recovery stays pending if the source cannot be identified safely. You can empty and dismantle an unused available crate to recover its building materials and rebuild elsewhere.
Pickup uses a timed shipment. No walking courier or boat travels to the crate. It transports items from the crate to a port; it does not transport your character or bring a port's cargo inland.
Normal and Express
Normal service uses MWL's configured transit duration. Express defaults to half the Normal travel time for twice the fee. Both use the destination port's normal shipment collection and expiration rules. Review the actual quote before dispatch: server settings and MWL configuration can change costs and timings.
The server's BepInEx/config/local.valheim.fieldpickup.cfg contains Shipping / ExpressTimeMultiplier (default 0.5) and Shipping / ExpressCostMultiplier (default 2). MWL controls the shipping currency and Normal transit settings. Express fees are rounded up.
Installation and compatibility
Install Field Pickup 0.1.2 on the server and every client, with BepInEx and More World Locations AIO 5.1.4 or 5.1.7, including MWL's own required files and dependencies. Use the same MWL release across the server and clients. Shipping ports must be enabled.
For manual installation, copy plugins/FieldPickup/FieldPickup.dll from this ZIP to BepInEx/plugins/FieldPickup/FieldPickup.dll. This archive contains only Field Pickup's DLL and documentation; it does not include MWL, Jotunn, BepInEx, or Valheim assemblies and assets.
The manifest declares warpalicious-More_World_Locations_AIO-5.1.4. Hexium dependency entries mean a minimum version; this release's runtime adapter accepts the audited 5.1.4 and 5.1.7 releases and disables pickup for other versions. Keep a supported version selected in your mod manager. The MWL dependency could not be located in Hexium's public Valheim catalog or package API during package preparation; automatic dependency installation and upload acceptance have not been verified. Install the original MWL package separately if your manager cannot resolve it.
Updating from 0.1.1: exit Valheim and stop the server, then replace the existing FieldPickup.dll on the server and every client. Keep your configuration and saved shipping files. Version 0.1.2 fixes the "requires exactly MWL 5.1.4" startup error when MWL 5.1.7 is installed; downgrading MWL is unnecessary. This update does not change the crate recipe, cargo, or saved receipt format.
Field Pickup uses the existing MWL port network and manifest delivery. No new ports or world regeneration are required. Inventory extensions, automatic container withdrawal, and shipping changes by other mods need compatibility testing.
Saves and testing
Back up your world and the server's BepInEx/config/MWL_Ports and BepInEx/config/FieldPickup directories together before testing, restoring, or moving hosts. Field Pickup's dispatch journal and discovered-port registry accompany MWL's separately saved shipment ledger. Keep matching backups; restoring only one part can leave a crate unavailable for recovery. A completed local build or ZIP validation does not demonstrate recovery after a crash, multiplayer ownership handoff, or correct collection in the game. The included TESTING.md records the remaining acceptance checks and release limitations.
Upgrading from 0.1.0 needs care: older receipts used network IDs that can change on restart. When those receipts exist, untagged crates stay locked; they are not automatically migrated or deleted. Already committed cargo remains collectible. Keep the saved files and see TESTING.md for the recovery limitations.
Keep Field Pickup installed on the server and clients until all its shipments have been collected. Its delivery adapter decodes the native item snapshots used to preserve cargo details. Before removing it, finish or collect outstanding shipments, empty and dismantle its crates, save the world, and exit the game.
