EnhancedStealth
EnhancedStealth applies a configurable multiplier to enemy vision range when the target player is crouching. The default 0.5 means creatures visually detect crouched players at half their normal range.
Version 0.4.0 is rebuilt for Valheim 1.0.15 and requires BepInExPack 5.4.2350 plus Jotunn 2.30.1 or newer compatible releases.
It deliberately leaves the player's underlying vanilla stealth value unchanged and applies its multiplier only during the enemy vision check, so all of these still matter:
- Sneak skill
- ambient light and darkness
- equipment/status-effect stealth modifiers
- creature view distance and view angle
- terrain and object line of sight
Hearing and player-generated noise are unchanged. Standing visibility is unchanged.
The broader creature-detection settings default to vanilla (1.0) and can independently adjust global sight and hearing ranges. Per-creature overrides stack on those globals using stable prefab names:
[Creature Detection]
GlobalSightRangeMultiplier = 1.0
GlobalHearingRangeMultiplier = 1.0
[Creature Overrides]
SightMultipliers = Troll=1.25;Greydwarf=0.75
HearingMultipliers = Troll=0.8;Greydwarf=1.1
The effective visual range against a crouched player is:
vanilla creature view range
× vanilla player visibility from light and Sneak skill
× crouched visibility multiplier
× global creature sight multiplier
× matching creature override
Press F7 in a world to display the current visibility factor, configured crouch multiplier, and global sight and hearing multipliers. Lower visibility is harder to see. Configuration is generated at BepInEx/config/bluepeon.valheim.enhancedstealth.cfg.
Multiplayer and private servers
EnhancedStealth requires Jotunn and must be installed on the server and every client. The server's gameplay configuration is synchronized when a player joins and is locked for non-admin clients. This includes Enabled, visibility, sight, hearing, alerted-sight behavior, and every creature override. The F7 key is client-local and is not synchronized.
For a listen server, the hosting player's configuration is authoritative. For a dedicated server, edit BepInEx/config/bluepeon.valheim.enhancedstealth.cfg on the server. Players with a different local configuration receive the server values for that session, and players missing the mod or using a different version are rejected during connection.
Only players listed in Valheim's adminlist.txt can alter synchronized settings through an in-game configuration manager. Leave ordinary players out of that list if the pack owner wants exclusive control. Files on a player's own machine do not override the active server values.
Valheim distributes AI ownership between peers, so requiring the mod on every machine and synchronizing the same values prevents detection behavior from changing with creature ownership.
