Description

A mod to force show position on the map. The server enforces it by rewriting the player list it sends out, so clients can't turn it off by unticking the box or by not having the mod.

Server and client installation

Install the mod on the server to enforce position sharing. Players do not need the mod and can join with an unmodded client.

Installing it on the client only keeps the map UI accurate: the position-sharing checkbox shows what the server is actually broadcasting and is locked while enforcement applies. Without the client mod, the vanilla checkbox can still be changed and may show the player's local preference, but the server ignores it and continues enforcing its configured state.

Modded clients receive the server configuration through ServerSync. Unmodded clients are still subject to the server's enforcement.

This mod uses a file watcher. If the server configuration file is edited directly, saving it reloads the configuration and syncs the changes to modded clients.

Configuration Options

[1 - General]

  • Lock Configuration [Synced with Server]
    • If on, only server admins can change the configuration.
      • Default value: On
  • Prevent Public Toggle [Synced with Server]
    • Prevents you and other people on the server to turn off their map sharing option. NOTE: If the admin exempt toggle is on, admins bypass this.
      • Default value: On
  • Admin Exempt [Synced with Server]
    • If on, server admins can bypass the force of position sharing.
      • Default value: On
  • Off In Wards [Synced with Server]
    • If on, hide position sharing in wards. NOTE: This will force position to toggle off and stay off while inside a ward.
      • Default value: Off

Installation Instructions

You must have BepInEx installed correctly! I can not stress this enough.

Windows (Steam)

  1. Locate your game folder manually or start Steam client and :
    1. Right click the Valheim game in your steam library
    2. "Go to Manage" -> "Browse local files"
    3. Steam should open your game folder
  2. Extract the contents of the archive. Put the DLL into BepInEx\plugins the other files are needed for the thunderstore upload and can be ignored.
  3. Locate azumatt.WhereYouAt.cfg under BepInEx\config and configure the mod to your needs

Server

The server is what enforces position sharing. Clients without the mod can still join.

  1. Locate your main folder manually and :
    1. Extract the contents of the archive into BepInEx\plugins.
    2. Launch your game at least once to generate the config file needed if you haven't already done so.
    3. Locate azumatt.WhereYouAt.cfg under BepInEx\config on your machine and configure the mod to your needs
  2. Reboot your server. Position sharing is now enforced for all players. Clients with the mod also receive the server's configuration.

Changelog

(Latest listed first)

1.1.0 Latest
  • Update just in case Gale sees this as deprecated.
1.0.13
  • Fixed rapid clicking when opening the large map with the optional client mod installed.
  • Reminder: Client installation only keeps the map checkbox accurate and locked. Server enforcement works for players without the mod.
1.0.12
  • The server now enforces position sharing itself, so players can't hide by unticking the box or by not having the mod.
  • Off In Wards is checked on the server too, so it works on dedicated servers and with WardIsLove wards.
  • Clients no longer need the mod to join, and there is no version check kicking anyone. Installing it on clients shows the real state on their map checkbox and locks it while enforced.
